ACC baseball drops four to Highland in weekend series

Allen Community College’s baseball team dropped four games to Highland this weekend.
On Saturday, ACC lost the first game of the four-game series, 15-14. Down 15-11 heading into the seventh inning, the Red Devils came up one run short in their comeback bid. Gunar Drinnen hit an RBI single to get the offense going in the frame. Alex Lugo grounded out to second, but a run was scored on the play. Gabe Gomez, who walked earlier in the inning, came around to score on a wild pitch. But, Allen couldn’t get one more run in to tie the game.
Caeden Harris led the team with three hits, which included a double and triple. Lugo led the team with three RBIs, with one hit. Gomez, Drinnen and Ryne Martinez each had two RBIs. Ben Aslett and Harris each had an RBI. Derrick Weir had two base hits and two walks.
In game two, Allen couldn’t keep the offensive pace of game one up and lost 14-0. Drinnen accounted for Allen’s only hit of the game. Harris, Jeremy Thomas and Nate Ek each drew a walk.
The teams played a third game on Saturday. Allen lost 7-1. The Red Devils scored their lone run in the fifth inning. Drinnen started the inning with a double. Ek hit him in later in the inning with a double.
Martinez, Drinnen and Cameron Pope each had two hits. Ek and Thomas had one.
In Sunday’s contest at ACC, the Red Devils fell 19-6. Highland took the win with a nine-run fourth inning and a 10-run fifth inning.
Thomas led the team with two hits, which included a triple and an RBI. Ek and Lugo each had two hits, that included a double and an RBI. Weir had two singles and an RBI. Aslett had a single and an RBI.
Allen (7-20) hosts Kansas Wesleyan on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
