After 20 years of service to the Allen Community College board of trustees, Harvey Rogers was honored by colleagues and friends at a farewell celebration at the college Tuesday evening.
The 84-year-old trustee said Father Time had finally forced his hand, but that he’d enjoyed every day he served the college and community in his role on the board.
“It’s been a great ride for me, and I’ve really met a lot of wonderful people,” said Rogers, turning toward the school’s current trustees and administrators who’d gathered to bid Rogers goodbye. “The people that you all help, the students — it’s just dynamite. Every time we had graduation, I would sit there and look at those young students come in. In every other young person there, I could see myself. And I wanted for them what we all wanted, that they would leave Allen, apply themselves, and do well, really do well.
“Well, OK,” said Rogers at last, “I guess that’s about the size of it. Thank you all very much.”
