Barbara Sue (Thacker) Culbertson, 68, Iola, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2016, at her home.

She was born on June 26, 1947, in Maywood, Calif., the daughter of Orville and Valta (Waters) Thacker. Barbara graduated from Excelsior High School in Norwalk, Calif., in 1965.

Barbara was united in marriage to Richard Culbertson on May 27, 1968, in Las Vegas. This union was blessed with three children.

She worked in retail sales, and later in the billing department at Mercy Hospital of Fort Scott and Allen County Hospital. Barbara was a member of the Colony Christian Church, Allen County Hospital Auxiliary and BPW, where she was a past president of the Auxiliary organization. She was also a member of the Sunflowers Quilters Guild.

Barbara enjoyed sewing, quilting and gardening. She loved being outside with her flowers, and traveling, going on cruises, and antiquing. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Richard; children, Joelle Shallah and husband Sam, Iola, Richard Culbertson Jr., Red Bluff, Calif., and Matthew Culbertson and wife Shelly, Chanute; sister Pat Baker of Carson City, Nev.; five grandchildren, Brittany Jensen and husband Dakota, Sam Shallah, Ryan Chapman and wife Brandi, Zachery Culbertson and Ashton Culbertson; and three great-grandchildren, Adyson Shallah, Piper Jensen and and Timberlyn Chapman.

 

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Highland Cemetery in Iola. The family will greet friends following services at the First Christian Church, 1608 Oregon Rd., Iola. Memorial contributions may be made to Wings of Warriors or Colony Christian Church and left in care of Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 219 S. Oak St., Garnett, KS 66032.
