Linda S. Bauer, 70, a long-time Erie resident, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 11:10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin. Her death was unexpected.
She was born on June 2, 1945, in rural Erie, to Ewing and Beulah (Kinne) Showalter. She grew up in Erie and attended Erie schools graduating from Erie High School in 1963.
She lived in Chanute, Lawrence and Humboldt before moving back to Erie in 1966. She was a homemaker and later graduated from Neosho County Community College with an associate’s degree in nursing.
She and Darrell Bauer were united in marriage on Feb. 1, 1963, at her parents’ home in Erie. He survives at the home.
She worked at Osawatomie State Hospital as a psychiatric nurse and later at Mount Carmel Medical Center in Pittsburg in the psychiatric unit until its closure. She later worked at the Neosho County Health Department until her retirement.
She enjoyed traveling and attending her grandchildren’s activities and sporting events. She was a faithful member of Temple Baptist Church in Erie where she previously taught Sunday school, helped with youth activities, and served as church secretary and treasurer. She also was instrumental in helping establish the Erie Community Fund. Linda had a kind, giving and generous heart. She loved her Lord, family, church, friends and community.
In addition to husband Darrell, Linda is survived by her son, Dan Bauer, Pittsburg; her daughter, Trudy Richwine, and her husband, Stacy, Erie; three grandchildren, Dylan Richwine, Allison Richwine and Jandyn Bauer; her brother, Larry Showalter, and his wife, Rose, Houston, Texas; two sisters, Dina Rivera, Erie, and Cindi Leverenz, and her husband, Jeff, Pittsburg; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, David Bauer, on Oct. 10, 2004, and her parents.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Temple Baptist Church with Pastor Shane Scott officiating.  Burial will follow in the East Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Temple Baptist Church.  Friends may call the church after 9 a.m. Friday.  Memorials are suggested to the Temple Baptist Church Youth Fund or to the Erie Community Fund and these may mailed to or left in care of the funeral home P.O.
