Carolyn Marlene Kendrick, 76, Fort Scott, died Sunday, March 22, 2015, at the Fort Scott Mercy Hospital. She was born Sept. 27, 1938, in Fort Scott, the daughter of Wade Robert Byington and Marie Mae Sharpless Byington. She married Jack Kendrick on Oct. 19, 1972, in Elizabeth City, N.C.
Marlene had been employed by the Fort Scott Police Department where she worked as a reserve officer and in search and rescue. She had also been employed by Peerless Products. She enjoyed reading and tending her plants, but above all she enjoyed spending quality time with her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother whose home was always open to her family and their friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband, Jack, and her four children; Roy Dale Davenport, Fort Scott, Randall Charles Cox (Rodriquez) and Curtis Lee Davenport, both of Joplin, Mo., and Nicki De-Ann Kendrick, Nevada, Mo.; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Marjorie Turner, Fort Scott and a special friend, Pauline Smith, Arcadia. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Valerie Ann Davenport; her parents, a sister, Georgia Byington, as well as other loved ones.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Following funeral services, there will be cremation. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to Care to Share and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O.
