Melodee Kay McEndree, 62, rural Elsmore, passed away suddenly on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, near Elsmore, as the result of an accident.
She was born Aug. 9, 1955, in Fort Scott, to Robert “Bob” and Virginia (Anderson) Lyons. She mainly grew up in Fort Scott, moved to Houston in 1970, and graduated from Bellaire High School in Bellaire, Texas. She returned to Fort Scott shortly after high school. She attended Fort Scott Community College, and began her family with two daughters in Fort Scott. She married Charlie J. McEndree in Miami, Okla., in November 1989. They made their home in rural Elsmore, where they had two more daughters. She lived in rural Elsmore throughout her remaining years.
She worked as a CNA in several nursing facilities, most recently Greystone in Iola. She loved the people she cared for, and those that she worked with; they loved her dearly in return.
She loved all her animals, with her horses being her greatest passion, second only to her daughters and granddaughters. She enjoyed reading and fresh garden produce. She will long be remembered for her genuine kindness to people and animals.
Survivors include her husband, Charlie, of the home; daughters, Amy Heinz and husband Jacob, Katy, Texas, Katie Stipp and husband Cody, Thayer,  and Jamee Byram and husband Deloyd, St. Augustine, Fla.; granddaughters, Ivy Heinz and Willow Stipp; mother, Virginia Williams, Houston; sister Honey Doan, Katy, Texas; sister-in-law Nancy McEndree, LaHarpe; father-in-law, Elmer McEndree, LaHarpe; a nephew, Jason Doan and wife Marissa, Huntsville, Texas; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Melodee was preceded in death by her daughter, Mandy Cowan; her father, Bob Lyons; brother, Jeff Lyons; brother-in-law, Chet McEndree; and mother-in-law, Ruth McEndree.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 U.S. 54, Iola. Burial will follow the service in the Evergreen Cemetery at Fort Scott. Visitation will be the evening prior from 5 to 7, also at the new funeral home location.
Contributions in her memory are suggested to Allen County Animal Rescue Facility and may be left with the funeral home.
