Richard D. Moore, 83, Independence, Mo., passed away, Monday, July 7, 2014, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Independence, Mo. Cremation is planned with a memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 3736 Lee’s Summit Rd., Independence, Mo. Inurnment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the church.

Richard was born in Gas to Howard and Hazel (Close) Moore and graduated from Iola High School in 1948. He worked as a meat cutter for Kroger’s, Schnucks and United Supers until he retired in 1992. He was a member of the Meat Cutter’s Union Local No. 2 and St. Mark’s Catholic Church. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. 

He was married to Marilyn Lackey on Sept. 29, 1956 and she survives of the home. Other survivors include two sons, Kenneth Moore and wife Cynthia and Ronald Moore, all of Independence, Mo.; two daughters, Peggy Petroni of Louisville, Ky., and Cynthia Hartley and husband Mark of Warsaw, Mo.; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law and numerous cousins. 

He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Lynn Moore, in 1959, his parents and a brother, Jerry Moore. Online condolences may be expressed online through Speaks Suburban Chapel at www.speakschapel.com
