Robert E. McHaley, 72, Paola, passed away Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at the Miami County Medical Center in Paola.
He was born April 22, 1944, the son of Roy Vernon McHaley and Nellie Augusta (Rinninger) McHaley. Robert grew up and attended schools in Iola.
He was united in marriage to Kathern Knavel. They later divorced.
Robert moved from Iola to Paola, where he has resided for over 42 years. He worked in construction, performing various jobs throughout the years. After working construction, he enjoyed mowing and caretaking at Hillsdale Lake.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Paola. He enjoyed fishing and camping with family and friends.
Mr. McHaley was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clinton and Earl Vernon “Tuffy” McHaley; and three sisters, Stella Diaz, Clara Noble and Shirley Gregg.
Surviving family includes his daughter, Gail Chapman, Iola; son, Robert E. McHaley Jr. and wife Carolyn, Ottawa; two sisters, Lela Damron and Betty Diaz; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
