To the editor:
I continue to hear this recurring cry for change.
This crying is not for change. You want everything to stay exactly the same. The same increases in taxes, spending, building new things, keeping people on welfare, unemployment, number of city employees, education of our children, expansion of government.
The paper said that we voted against change, when in reality the majority voted to change everything. Brownback is changing things. He’s bucking the system and the media is crucifying him for it.
I keep reading that the projections are for the state to be in the hole in 2016. If these economist could predict the future they wouldn’t be making a living writing about our governor, they’d be billionaires wanting to get their taxes reduced.
Projections aren’t worth the paper they’re written in.
If you want change for the kids, change the way you are teaching. Teach them to become something, aka trade school. Change the teachers. If the kids aren’t getting an education, that’s the first place I’d start looking.
Change the administrators. Maybe they’re restricting change in the teachers.
You want change? Cut the city budget by 10 percent, make your fire department all volunteer. You do this you’ll have plenty of money to spend.
Yeah, there are a lot of ways to change. But I’ll promise you, change is hard. You have to look to the core, that is where change comes from. Change does not occur just by covering the real issues with new things.
Don Erbert,
Iola, Kan.
