Carol J. Stone, 76, of Iola died Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at Allen County Hospital.
She was born Sept. 18, 1935, at rural Mapleton, the daughter of Hula John and Leona Sophia (Roberts) McHenry. She grew up near the communities of Mapleton and Fulton.
Carol married Billy G. Meech and they made their home in the Mapleton area. They later divorced and she was married to Ralph Stone. They lived north of LaHarpe. He preceded her in death in August of 2008.
She worked a number of years as a waitress and later as a nurse’s aide in nursing homes. Carol loved animals and music. She had attended the Assembly of God Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Carol West and husband Jim of Iola and Patsy Pollet and husband Clarence Jr. of LaHarpe; a sister, Betty McBride of Independence, Mo.; six grandchildren, Shawn Malloy, Dawn Malloy, Amanda Malloy, Kim Pollet, Crystal Richey, and Kirby Pollet; 11 great-grandchildren, Johnny, Cody, Casy, Cory, Courtney, Josh, Bryce, Haylee, Hunter, Kyree and Kerzia; three great-great-grandchildren, Julia, Kiara and Peyton. She was preceded in death by infant twins.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Harvest Baptist Church in Iola. Burial will be in LaHarpe Cemetery. Memorial gifts to Allen County Animal Rescue Facility may be left with Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
