CHANUTE — Allen Community College’s softball season came to a heartbreaking end over the weekend.
The Red Devils were on the losing end of late-inning comebacks Friday and Saturday in their Region IV playoff series with Neosho County. The team lost the series, 2-1.
On Saturday, the Red Devil women won game one 3-0.
“The first game we played amazing defense,” coach Jaime Jensen said. “We made no errors and made every play. We also hit well, too.”
Allen took the lead in the top of the third. Alana Renshaw hit an RBI single that scored Ashley Womack, who had reached on a double.
ACC added two more in the fifth inning. Renshaw laid down a sacrifice bunt, which led to Cheyanne Daniels scoring. Renshaw was safe at first base on an error. Womack scored her second run of the game later on an error.
The Red Devils held the lead the rest of the game.
The biggest loss for ACC was right fielder Erika King. In the bottom of the seventh inning, she dove for a ball in foul territory and hit the dividing barrier. She left the game due to injury.
Baileigh Rager pitched the complete, seven-inning game. She gave up five hits, no walks and struck out four.
ACC had a chance to wrap up the series with a win in game two. Unfortunately, they couldn’t close out the series and lost 10-9 in the seventh inning.
“In the second game, we put up 14 hits, but our fielding killed us. We had multiple errors. It was just the little things,” Jensen said. “I think we got to caught up in the moment, maybe. Ultimately, we’ve got to make plays.”
Allen led 4-0 halfway through the second inning. In the first inning, Daniels had a two-run single, and she eventually scored on an error. Daniels then hit an RBI single in the second inning to get Allen the 4-0 lead.
Neosho bounced back to tie the score at 4-4.
Allen took a big lead with a five-run fifth.
Renshaw and Rager came around to score on an error to start the rally. Tristyn Delgado hit an RBI single. Daniels got another RBI after hitting into a fielder’s choice. Ashley Womack hit an RBI double to put an exclamation point on the inning.
Allen wasn’t able to keep the five-run lead.
Neosho scored two runs each in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings.
The Red Devils held a 9-8 lead headed to the bottom of the seventh.
The inning started with a fly ball. But, that’s the only out ACC earned. After a walk and a single, Neosho came through with a clutch single to bring in both runs and win the game, 10-9.

STILL, the tie-breaker gave the Red Devils another shot to advance, and things were looking good early as Allen took a 4-1 lead after two innings.
Cassidy Reynolds started the game with a single. After a sacrifice by Justine Dougan, Reynolds advanced to third. Daniels hit an RBI single to bring in Reynolds. Womack hit a triple to score Daniels and Allen took a 2-0 lead.
Neosho scored a run in bottom of the inning, but Allen added two more in the second. Daniels earned an RBI on a fielder’s choice. Womack followed with an RBI single.
Neosho scored twice in the third to close the gap to 4-3, where it stayed until the seventh.
Womack’s solo home run pushed Allen’s lead to 5-3 in the final frame.
After two singles and an error, Neosho had the bases loaded. A fielder’s choice cut the lead to 5-4.
Neosho’s next batter, Becki Hendrickson, ended the game and Allen’s season with a two-run double. Two heartbreaking loss in as many days.
Allen ended the season 15-29.

ALLEN BASEBALL dropped its final two games of the season to Johnson County on Sunday.
In game one, ACC lost 3-2.
Caeden Harris hit an RBI single, which brought in Alex Lugo, who doubled, to give the Red Devils a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
After Johnson took a 2-1 lead after three innings, ACC tied the score in the fourth on Lugo’s solo home run. Johnson added the third and winning run in the fifth.
Ben Aslett added a single for Allen’s only other hit.
Allen lost game two 14-4.
Aslett led the team with a home run, single and one RBI. Harris had a triple, single and RBI. Gabe Gomez had an RBI and single. Zach Bickling had a double. Cameron Pope and Chandler Crow each had singles. John Mitchell had two singles.
The Red Devils finished the year at 14-31.
