Humboldt Cubs, Lady Cubs glide past Oswego Friday

OSWEGO — Humboldt High’s baseball team picked up two road wins at Oswego on Friday. The Cubs won each game behind a high-powered offense, defeating Oswego 23-0 and 18-0.
In game one’s 23-run showing, everyone in the lineup contributed for Humboldt. The Cubs were leading 10-0 after the third inning, but a 13-run outburst in the fourth put the game away.
Kason Siemens hit a triple, two singles and had three RBIs. Tyler Korte hit a double, triple and had three RBIs. Rayce Hoepker, Tanner Orth and Jacob Carpenter each hit a single and had two RBIs. Corey Whitcomb hit a double and had two RBIs. Rhett Smith had three singles and two RBIs. Evan Gean hit two singles and had an RBI. Devin Davidson, Jake Haviland and Dillon Aikins each hit a single and had an RBI. Zach Vanatta had a single.
On the mound, Daylon Spane pitched four innings of shutout ball. He gave up two hits, a walk and struck out six.
In game two’s big win, Humboldt started out with a 10-0 lead after the first. They didn’t score again until the fifth inning, but added eight more runs to seal the game.
Siemens hit two more triples and produced three RBIs. Haviland hit three singles and had just as many RBIs. Vanatta hit two singles and had two RBIs. Hoepker hit a single and had an RBI. Smith had an RBI. Carpenter hit two doubles. Korte had two singles and Splane hit a single.
Hoepker pitched the first four innings. He had two strike-outs and allowed two hits. Davidson finished the game in the fifth, striking out one and allowing two hits.
Humboldt (14-2) travels to Uniontown on Thursday.

HUMBOLDT High’s softball team remained undefeated after picking up a doubleheader sweep against Oswego on Friday. The teams had two complete wins, defeating Oswego 17-2 and 20-0.
Brook Turner pitched game one’s 17-2 win. She went all seven innings, giving up two runs, three hits and had seven strikeouts.
Jaci Ross led the offense with four RBIs, two singles and two doubles. Turner hit three singles and had three RBIs. Courtney Richey hit two singles, a double, a triple and had two RBIs. Breanna Kline hit a single, two doubles and had two RBIs. Delaney Umholtz hit a single and had an RBI. Makaylah McCall hit two singles and had an RBI. Kasey Beeman hit a single. Sabrina Arell hit two singles. Mallory Roush hit two singles.
Richey got another win, improving to 11-0 on the mound this season. She pitched all three innings, giving up no hits or walks. Of the nine hitters she faced, she fanned seven of them.
She also swung the bat just as well as she pitched. She led the team with a home run, triple, single and five RBIs. Umholtz hit a home run, double, single and had two RBIs. McCall had three singles with two RBIs. Roush hit two triples, two singles and had two RBIs. Beeman hit a triple and had an RBI. Arell hit a single, double and had an RBI. Ross hit a single and had an RBI. Turner had a triple and RBI. Kline had an RBI.
Humboldt (16-0) heads to Uniontown on Thursday.
