Humboldt JV teams sweep past Chargers

HUMBOLDT — Humboldt High’s junior varsity baseball and softball teams each swept Cherryvale Thursday night.
The Cubs won 3-2 and 7-0 in baseball action.
Wyatt Seufert started game one’s 3-2 win, pitching four innings. He  gave up one hit, two walks and had five strikeouts. Evan Gean earned the save with a scoreless fifth.
Cade Ames led off the second inning with a double. He moved over to third after Hesston Murrow laid down a sacrifice bunt. Brent Yost hit him in on a fielder’s choice. In the third inning, Dillon Aikins hit a double, scoring both Daylon Splane and Josh Vanatta.
“Wyatt did a really good job on the mound for it being his first opportunity to pitch this season,” coach Mike Miller said. “Our defense played really well behind him.
In game two’s 7-0 win, Aikins pitched the first four innings to earn the ‘W.’ He gave up one hit and one walk. Murrow closed it out with a scoreless fifth.
The team jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to back-to-back RBI-singles from Murrow and Jackson Wilder.
“Dillon and Hesston both pitched great tonight, and our hitters did a good job at scoring runs,” Miller said.
Vanatta had an RBI, single and two walks. Gean had a single, two walks and a run scored. Murrow and Wilder each had a single and RBI. Splane scored three runs.
Humboldt is 7-1.

THE LADY CUBS took care of Cherryvale with 16-1 and 17-2 wins.
Rylan Wilhite picked up the win in game one. She pitched three innings, gave up three hits and struck out six.
Kassie Angleton hit a homer over the centerfield fence and was only a single away from the cycle. Tilar Wells hit two singles and a double. Wilhite and Kira McReynolds had two singles. Bri Ames hit a double. Sydney Houk hit a single. Denise Johnson hit a double.
Ames earned the win in game two, pitching three innings, giving up two runs on six hits and striking out one.
Kailey Woken hit a triple and double. Wells had two singles and a double. Wilhite hit a single. McReynolds hit two singles and a double. Ames and Houk each hit a single. Angleton had two singles and a double. Hannah Riebel had a single and double.
Humboldt is 6-0.
