News & Notes: Trojans give Wildcats first loss of season

NEODESHA — The Yates Center boys’ basketball team suffered their first loss of the season in Friday’s championship game of the Wilson County Classic.
In a 70-62 loss to Girard — the No. 8 ranked team in 4A-Divsion 2 according to the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association — Yates Center sophomore Aaron King was able to put on a show with 32 points on 12-of-18 shooting. The 6-3 forward made 6-of-9 three-point shots to accrue his total.
Senior guard Mikey Bruner added 14 points and also grabbed a team-high five rebounds.

ALLEN MEN TOP NEOSHO
The Red Devil men completed a season sweep of their rival Panthers with a 90-76 victory on Saturday in Chanute.
DaRon Mims led the Red Devils with 34 points. Quentin Blaue, E.J. Garnes and Jah-Kobe Womack had 20, 17 and 16 respectively,
The win improves Allen to 7-8 in the Jayhawk Conference and 10-9 overall.
The Red Devil women lost a heartbreaker 60-59.
Allen will return home to play Colby on Wednesday.

LARSON BREAKS RECORD
BALDWIN CITY — Kelsey Larson, an Iola High School graduate, secured a spot in the Baker University record book in Saturday’s 103-63 home victory over Clarke.
Larson set the school-record for three-pointers made in a single game with eight triples.
The senior led the team with 30 points and shot 8-of-12 from behind the arc and 10-of-16 overall.
Larson is the Wildcats’ leader in points and steals this season and has led her team to a 14-4 record overall.
