Ponies grapple with success

The Iola Ponies wrestling team hosted their home meet on Tuesday at the high school and while they didn’t place in the top three, they did have plenty of individual success winning 32 of 47 matches with six wrestlers finishing first in their weight classes.
The Ponies competed against Anderson County, Burlington, Frontenac, Central Heights, Coffeyville, Prairie View, Chanute, Jayhawk-Linn, Pittsburg, SE Cherokee and Uniontown.
Their results:
84-85 – Ryan Wools, 3rd,
7 team points.
Round 1 – Tucker Nelson (Anderson County) won by fall over Wools (0:59)
Round 2 – Wools received a bye
Round 3 – Jakeob Stewart (Uniontown) won by fall over Wools (2:48)
86-91 – T.J. Taylor, 2nd,
11 team points.
Round 1 – Corbin White (Jayhawk – Linn) won by decision over Taylor (4-0)
Round 2 – Taylor won by decision over John Wright (Anderson County) (3-2)
Round 3 – Taylor won by major decision over Seth Gann (Pittsburg) (12-0)
92-93 – Travis Wanker, 3rd, 9 team points.
Round 1 – Cade Murphy (Frontenac) won by decision over Wanker (5-0)
Round 2 – Jesse Stalford (Central Heights) won by fall over Wanker (2:16)
Round 3 – Wanker won by fall over Madison Coulter (Uniontown) (1:39)
98-102 – Brandon McKarnin, 1st, 20 team points.
