INDEPENDENCE — Big games from Allen Community College sophomore guards E.J. Garnes and DaRon Mims weren’t enough to overcome Independence on Wednesday on the road.
The Red Devils lost 86-68 despite getting 20 points from Mims and 17 from Garnes.
Allen was let down by lackluster performances from its supporting cast with the rest of the team combining for only 31 points in the lopsided loss.
Red Devil sharp-shooter Quentin Blaue had a quiet night, going just 1-of-6 for three points.
Blaue did share the team lead in rebounding with Mims with five boards.
The rebounding margin hurt the Red Devils with their four primary big men —  Ithello Cross, Ahmad Winston, Kyle Hultgren and Beau Shockley — combining for just eight rebounds in 57-plus minutes of combined court time.

GIRLS
The Red Devil women didn’t fair much better with a 55-34 loss.
After only trailing 21-20 at halftime, Allen was out-scored 34-14 in the second half and Independence cruised to victory.
Allen was led by freshman point guard Kamri Summons with 14 points and five steals.
Fellow guard Tamera Shaver had seven points, but the Allen post players really struggled with sophomore Damonica Franklin finishing with only two points. She did grab 10 rebounds and four steals.
