Humboldt High’s golfers saw action at two tournaments this week.
Robbie Sellman won the Neodesha Golf Tournament at Sycamore Valley Golf Course on Tuesday. He shot five under par, finishing with a 67. He beat Fredonia’s Justin Solander by six strokes.
This was the first time that Sellman has shot under par in his career. He birdied the first five holes of the round. He finished off the next 13 holes with two birdies, two bogies and nine pars. He hit 15 of the 18 greens.
“As great as his first five holes were, I am more impressed with how he didn’t let it get to his head and stayed the course,” coach Scott Brady said. “We talked about being in attack mode on every hole and going for birdies. Robbie did a great job of continuing to do that throughout the round.”
This was Sellman’s second win of the year. He plays at Fort Scott today. The Tri-Valley League tournament is at Erie on Monday.
Humboldt’s Matt Lea and Connor Roseberry played at Burlington’s junior varsity nine hole scramble on Monday. They combined to shoot a 56 for eighth place. It was a three-man scramble, so they were playing a member short.
