Spring regionals fast approaching

Spring sports are moving down the stretch of their respective seasons, with regionals right around the corner.
For Iola High’s boys tennis team, their Class 4A Regional will be Friday and Saturday at Parsons. They will go up against Labette County, Chanute, Field Kindley, Columbus, Fort Scott, Independence, Ottawa and Parsons.
Following boys tennis will be golf regionals, taking place on May 18.
Iola travels to Osawatomie Golf Course for the Class 4A Regional. They will take on Santa Fe Trail, Fort Scott, Anderson County, Prairie View, Louisburg, Osawatomie, Ottawa, Paola and Spring Hill.
Humboldt’s golf team will compete in the Class 3A Regional in Erie at the Prairie Ridge course. Their competition includes Caney Valley, Erie, Eureka, Fredonia, Galena, Jayhawk-Linn, Neodesha and Riverton.
In the Sand Greens competition, Yates Center will travel to Tipton. They will take on Chase, Dighton, Lakeside, La Crosse, Natoma, Sylvan Lucas Unified and Tipton Catholic.
In Class 1A Regional action, Marmaton Valley will travel to Pleasanton. They face Valley Heights, Centralia, Chetopa, Frankfort, Hartford, Immaculata and Pleasanton.
Also on May 18, Iola High’s baseball team will be at Prairie View for the team’s Class 4A-II Regional. Their competition will be Anderson County, Prairie View and Osawatomie.
Humboldt will be hosting the first round of a Class 3A Regional for baseball on May 18 and May 20. Their competition will be Erie, Eureka, Elk Valley, Fredonia, Jayhawk-Linn, Pleasanton and Neodesha.
Yates Center hosts a Class 1A Regional for baseball — which also includes Marmaton Valley — on May 18-19. Other teams include Pittsburg-St. Mary’s Colgan, Flinthills, St. Paul and Uniontown.
The Fillies softball team will travel to Anderson County for their Class 4A-II Regional on May 19. They face Anderson County, Prairie View and Osawatomie.
Humboldt, currently the only team undefeated in the area, travels to Mound City for its Class 3A Regional May 18 and 20. Other teams will include Northeast, Burlington, Erie, Eureka, Jayhawk-Linn, Pleasanton and Central Heights.
Yates Center and Marmaton Valley softball will each travel to Flinthills in Rosalia for their Class 1A Regional May 18-19. Other competition will include Altoona Midway and Uniontown.
All area thinclads will sprint, hurdle, vault or jump their way to state tournaments at their respective regionals May 22.
Iola’s track team travels to Prairie View. Humboldt travels to Leon-Bluestem. Crest, Southern Coffey County and Marmaton Valley compete at Burlington. Yates Center competes at Herington.
