Titans win, advance to 1A regional semis

LE ROY — Southern Coffey County High’s Titans dispatched Marais Des Cygnes Valley High’s Trojans in first-round action Monday.
The Titans pulled away from the visiting Trojans for a 48-21 win in Kansas Class 1A Regional Basketball Tournament play. After a 7-7 first  quarter, the Titans used a 16-2 surge in the second period to achieve separation.
Southern Coffey County extended its lead by out-scoring the Trojans 16-7 in the third quarter.
The win moved the Titans into the semifinals of the regional tournament hosted by Pleasanton High School. The Titans (13-8) take on second-seeded Waverly (16-5) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Pleasanton.
Hartford upended Pleasanton 56-51 in Monday’s first round. Hartford plays top-seeded Crest (16-4) at 6 p.m. Thursday at Pleasanton.
 Ben Spencer led a balanced scoring attack for the Titans with 10 points. Aaron Ludolph had nine.
The Trojans got eight points from Michael Zabel.
In the other area 1A regional hosted by Yates Center, Flinthills beat Elk Valley 65-32 and Chetopa defeated Altoona-Midway 60-22.
