HUMBOLDT ? Debra and William Stanley of Iola consider ?The Princess Bride? one of their favorite movies. They?ve even met some of the actors, including Cary Elwes (Westley) and Wallace Shawn (Vizzini), at a Comicon convention in Salt Lake City, Utah.

But until Sunday evening, they?d never watched the movie together. William first saw it in college, part of a tradition during finals week. Debra?s family introduced her to classic movies throughout her childhood.

The couple finally got a chance to see the movie together, along with their son, Willie, as part of A Bolder Humboldt?s ?Humboldt Movies on the Square.? The new event, introduced last month with a showing of ?The Goonies,? brings families together to enjoy an outdoor movie and activities each month.

A Bolder Humboldt?s Jessa and Josh Works, and Paul Cloutier said the family-friendly movies typically draw a crowd of about 300. The selections may be a little bit self-indulgent, Josh joked, as so far they?ve drawn from their own favorite childhood movies.

?We love the idea of living in a small town where friends and neighbors gather on the square and enjoy that sense of community,? Paul said. ?We want to be in a small town like this for a reason.?

?We catch ourselves leaving Humboldt to do things like this,? Jessa said. ?If all it takes is a little bit of organizing, it can be done.?

The group offers contests leading up to the movies, using the movie as a theme. The winners get VIP treatment, with prime seating one one of two couches and rugs brought in just for the event, along with a prize of candy from Bijou Confectionary.

For ?The Goonies,? the contest included a pirate-themed treasure hunt and trivia contest.

For ?The Princess Bride,? the contest asked participants to post a picture of their ?Twue Wuv? (a phrase from the movie) on social media.

Holly Akers and daughter Letty, Humboldt, won VIP treatment for the movie.
