The Collingsworth Family, which has gained nationwide acclaim for its music and ministry, will appear in Iola Saturday, the latest performance sponsored by the Southeast Kansas Christian Artist Series.
“We’ve been working to get these guys for years,” SEKCAS member Dee Singer told the Register. “They are tremendous singers and musicians.”
The Collingsworth Family’s origins date to 1986, when the husband-and-wife team of Phil and Kim Collingsworth began performing in college.
They soon added music to their ministry and for 14 years appeared at various church camps and revival campaigns.
They switched gears in 2000 to an all-concert ministry. They began recording professionally, and soon added the musical talents of their four children, Brooklyn, Courtney, Phillip Jr. and Olivia, ages 13 through 21.
Brooklyn and Courtney have become proficient on the violin and will play in the concert. The entire family sings together in an ensemble, while Brooklyn, the oldest, will join her parents for vocal trios.
Kim, meanwhile, will delight the audience with her skills on the piano, while Phil Sr. will do a number of songs on the trumpet.
Their ministry has been featured on a number of national television and music channels. Their music is regularly featured on Enlighten 34, Gospel Music Television, the DayStar Television Network and INSP Television Network. They’ve also been invited to perform at the Grand Ole Opry at the invitation of famed Christian music performers Bill and Gloria Gaither.
Advance tickets sell for $15 for orchestra seating and $12 for balcony. Tickets at the door will sell for $18 and $15, respectively. Student balcony tickets sell for $6 apiece. Advance tickets can be purchased by calling Singer at 365-7496.
