At an age where most youth are just getting acclimated to driving, Matt Norris is taking to the skies.
Norris, son of Iolans Tom and Monica Norris, became the third high school student to fly solo at Allen County Airport this summer.
Norris, 17, is a student at Accel Aviation.
His solo flight consisted of three takeoffs and landings.
Norris, who will be a senior at Iola High School, said he plans to attend Kansas State University flight school in Salina in the future.
Two other area high-schoolers, Mirana Myer, Humboldt, and Rocky Smith, Iola, also have flown solo this summer with the guidance of Accel Aviation instructors.
All three hope to complete their private pilot training and possibly begin other ratings this fall.
