Timothy E. Brazil, chief judge of the 31st Judicial District, will sit with the State Supreme Court Oct. 27 to hear appeals in three matters on the Court’s docket.
The Supreme Court appointed Brazil to join them in place of Chief Justice Robert E. Davis, who died Aug. 4.
Brazil is completing his 20th year as a district judge. He has been chief judge of the 31st Judicial District, which includes Allen, Neosho, Wilson and Woodson counties, since 2005.
He will hear oral arguments in three criminal cases next Wednesday and then participate in the high court deliberations and opinion drafting.
Brazil earned his bachelor’s degree from Pittsburg State University in 1969 and his law degree from the Washburn School of Law in 1975.
He began his legal career as a staff attorney with the Kansas Insurance Department 1975-1978, and then became a partner in the law firm of Henshall, Pennington and Brazil 1978-1990, when he was appointed to the bench.
