A group of recycling advocates will present a proposed joint city-county recycling operation for Iola and Allen County at Monday’s Iola Council meeting.
Steve Strickler, who has been in touch with both Iola and Allen County leaders in recent weeks, is expected to give the presentation.
Representatives from both governing bodies have expressed an interest in starting up a recycling project — the effort has been run locally by volunteers for nearly 30 years — and asked Strickler to return with a concrete proposal for consideration.
Also on Monday’s city agenda are further discussions about the city’s purchasing policy, which currently allows the city to favor local vendors if they are within 7% of the lowest bidder on large-scale purchases; a potential lift station purchase for the city’s Wastewater Department; and convention and tourism fund disbursements for the year.
The 6 p.m. meeting will be at the New Community Building at Riverside Park and is open to the public.
