In an effort to increase its outreach, the Iola Public library has eliminated overdue fines for all books, movies and audiobooks, according to Sharon Moreland, library director.
“Overdue fines can keep a family away from the library and that’s the last thing we want,” Moreland said.
A similar move was decided by library board members in 2020 for children’s accounts.
Libraries across the nation are going fine-free, while maintaining charges for lost, damaged or stolen materials.
