NEW YORK (AP) Starbucks Corp.s Howard Schultz is stepping down as executive chairman of the coffee company he helped transform into a global brand, and says public service may be in his future.
Schultz, 64, says he is considering many possibilities.
Ill be thinking about a range of options for myself, from philanthropy to public service, but Im a long way from knowing what the future holds, he said in a letter to employees.
Schultz said for some time now, I have been deeply concerned about our country the growing division at home and our standing in the world.
Schultz emphasized his roots, saying, I still feel like a kid from Brooklyn who grew up in public housing and that hed set out to build a company that my father, a blue-collar worker and World War II veteran, never had a chance to work for.
