Paramedic shortage an issue

Adequate staffing of paramedics on Allen County ambulances is a constant concern, Allen County commissioners learned Tuesday morning.

“We’re working to be an organization of choice,” said Sid Fleming, Iola administrator. Trouble is, that top-notch training is only working to better prepare employees to seek better-paying jobs elsewhere.

“We train them up good, they get to be go-getters, and then they want to go somewhere else,” said Fire Chief Tim Thyer, who oversees the ambulance department.
