Sting leads to

chase, arrest

Virgil Battles, 17, was arrested Sept. 18 for suspicion of felony theft, after he was accused of stealing a motorcycle belonging to Nathan Gonzales in the 100 block of West Neosho Street. The motorcycle was recovered, Police Chief Jared Warner said, after officers had heard Battles was attempting to sell the stolen cycle.

They arranged a meeting, with an officer posing as the prospective buyer, when Battles was arrested.

Battles escaped from custody as he was being processed, officers said, which led to a foot chase. Officers apprehended Battles and took him back into custody. Additional charges of aggravated escape from custody, battery of a law enforcement officer and interfering with law enforcement are being requested.
