He’s made his list and checked it twice.
But Santa’s not waiting until Christmas Eve to start handing out presents.
For the sixth consecutive year, Santa will be in Iola a few days out to begin dispensing gifts to youngsters of all ages.
Starting Thursday evening, Santa’s Toy Shop will open its doors at 7 E. Madison Ave.
The toy shop is the brainchild of Tracy Keagle and Humanity House.
Any child, regardless of age or income, will meet St. Nick and get a toy to take home.
But first, hailing Santa’s arrival will be throngs of Christmas carolers — organizers are hoping for more than 500 — who will gather near Jefferson Elementary School at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
The parade begins at 6 o’clock, and will wind around the courthouse square before ending up at the toy shop.
The toy shop opens immediately following the parade and will be open until 9 o’clock. Hope Unlimited will be on hand to serve up soup and cookies.
The toy shop will reopen from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Christmas Eve. The shop also will be open from 7 to 8 p.m. Christmas Eve for parents or guardians to return and get what they need for their families if their Christmas is short this year.
