Loyd Eugene “Gene” Wilson, 88, Bronson, died Saturday, May 28, 2011, at Tara Gardens Assisted Living in Iola. 
He was born Dec. 22, 1922, on the family farm home north of Bronson where he still lived at the time of his death. He was the son of Loyd M. and Bernice Julia (Clemings) Wilson. 
He married Mary Louise Camac on Nov. 28, 1946, in Bronson. He served with the U.S. Army 1945-1946.
He was a long-time farmer, even as he worked for Mack Colt Oil Company and the Kansas Highway Department and retired from Western Insurance Company.
He was a member of Bronson United Methodist Church where he held many responsibilities. He was a 67-year member of the Bronson Masonic Lodge, where he was a past Worshipful Master. He will be remembered for singing solos as well as singing in a quartet. He also loved to write poetry, ride horses and hunt quail.
His wife, of the home, survives, as does a son, Jack E. and his wife, Norma, Bronson; a daughter, Peggy Lou Clark and her husband, Robert, Fort Collins, Colo.; a grandson, Jerod Clark and his wife, Sarah, Chicago; three stepgrandchildren, Lynda Krouse, Tom Davis and his wife, Melissa, all of Illinois, and Amy Utley and her husband, Curtis, Iola. Also surviving are seven stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Emmett L.
Following cremation, the Revs. Chub Bolling and David Shrum will conduct a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Cheney Witt Bronson Chapel.
