Alma Herschberger, 92, of Iola, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018, at the home of her daughter in Ottawa. She was born Sept. 15, 1925, in Weatherford, Okla. to Ezra Yoder, Sr. and Jemima (Mullet) Yoder. She married Noah Herschberger Feb. 26, 1952, in Garnett. Together they made their home in Anderson County, and moved to Iola in the mid 1980s. She worked in Iola as a housekeeper for many people. Noah preceded her in death Nov. 3, 2010. Alma loved hand-quilting, gardening and canning the produce she grew. She will always be remembered for her desserts, especially chocolate angel food cake, homemade strawberry ice cream and her famous cherry dessert. She is survived by children, Ellen Mast and husband, Norman, of Ottawa, Glen Herschberger and wife, Patty, of Iola; grandchildren, Konrad Mast and wife, Cindy, Lieschen ONeill and husband, Matthew, Shannon Hattabaugh and partner, Josh Houghton, and Mason Houghton, all of Lawrence; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Andrew Yoder of Bloomfield, Iowa, Benedict Yoder and wife, Elizabeth, of Garnett, Katie Hershberger of Lexington, Ohio, Lena Miller of Shipshewana, Ind., Jonas Yoder and wife, Wilma, of LaGrange, Ind., and Ezra Yoder, Jr. and wife, Fern, of Yoder; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. Services include visitation 6-8 p.m. Friday at The Venue, 1883 U.S. 54, Iola. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Carlyle Presbyterian Church, Carlyle. Burial will follow in Geneva Cemetery.
