Carl L. Webb, age 94, of Iola, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 26, 2020.
Carl was born to Ernest and Bertha (Larkey) Webb on Dec. 31, 1926, in Iola. He graduated from Iola High School and joined the U.S. Navy, December 1944. Carl returned to Iola from the Navy in August 1946. After graduating from Iola Junior College, he began working as an engineering technician for the Kansas Department of Transportation. After 42 years of working for KDOT that included 10 years at Iola, six years at Coffeyville, and 26 years at Garnett, he retired in 1989 and moved to Iola.
Carl married Dorothy Anderson in December 1962. She passed away Aug. 26, 2000. He then married Annabelle Schmitz, Nov. 23, 2002. Annabelle passed away on June 15, 2012. Carl was also preceded in death by his step-daughter, Shirley (Anderson) Kirch. On April 26, 2008, at the age of 79 his brother, Ernest Webb Jr. of Peck, Kansas passed away. Ernest’s wife, Mary Louise, still resides at Peck. Other survivors include two nephews, Curtis D. Webb and Gary D. Webb and a niece, Patty C. Northrop, all of Wichita. Also, five stepchildren: Betty (Anderson) Powell, Iola; Myrtle (Schmitz) Northway and husband Rev. Donald, Coleman, Texas; Mary (Schmitz) Stokes, Iola; James Schmitz and wife, Kristy of Parker; and Lloyd Schmitz and wife, Wanda, Hutchinson.
Graveside services will be at Highland Cemetery at 2 p.m. Monday. Due to the restrictions associated with the COVID-19 virus a memorial service for Carl will be held at a later date at the Iola Baptist Temple.
