Charlotte Joan Owens, 73, rural Humboldt, died Monday, March 16, 2015, at Greystone Residential Care in Iola.
Charlotte was born Feb. 27, 1942, in the Neodesha area, the daughter of Clarence J. and Ruby I. (Jarred) Owens. The family lived in LaHarpe a short time before moving to a farm east of Humboldt. She attended Central Avenue Grade School, graduated from Humboldt High School in 1960 and attended Allen County Junior College.
On June 26, 1960, Charlotte married William “Bill” Owens at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. They made their home in Iola before moving to their farm northeast of Humboldt in 1978. She worked a number of years at H.L. Miller and Son Dress Factory and retired as a bookkeeper for the SEK Health Department.
Charlotte was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt, where she served as the church organist when she was younger. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and gardening.
Her husband survives, as do four children, Richard Owens and wife Susan, Humboldt, David Lee Owens and wife Joellen, Neosho Rapids, Teresa Owens, Humboldt, and Robert Owens and wife April, Gas; her mother, Ruby Owens also a resident of Greystone Residential Care in Iola; two sisters, Phyllis Boan and Marilyn Bumstead and husband Ron Jr., Humboldt; 11 grandchildren, one great-grandson and two great-grandchildren on the way.
She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Owens.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt with visitation an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, Iola.
