Dalfred Eugene McCoy went to heaven be with the love of his life Dorothy. He died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2010.
He was born March 24, 1923, in Iola, Kan., to Eugene and Virginia (Land) McCoy. He was a 1943 graduate of Iola High School. 
He was a survivor of the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl. He was a veteran of War World II and Korea. 
He had many jobs, Katy Railroad, Tulsa department store, Humboldt Brick Plant, Model Wholesale Grocery, construction and Gates Corporation.
He married Dorothy Adelaide Wood on March 12, 1950, in Iola. He and Dorothy spent most of their married life in Iola. He moved to Hiawatha in 1986 to be near his daughter, Nancy, then moved to Wamego in 1989 and came to Andover in 1991 to be near his daughter, Linden.
Dalfred had a very sharp mind and an excellent memory until the very end of his life.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, and a brother, Howard.
He is survived by his daughters, Linden and her husband, Dan Gentry, Andover; and Nancy and her husband, Ron Heiniger, Edenton, N.C.; grandchildren, Coe and Danielle Gentry, Ryan and his wife, Carey, Heiniger; Natalie and her husband, Kevin Briggs and Nastacia and her husband, John McArthur; two great-grandchildren, Jackson Heiniger and Nakayla McArthur; and a sister, Pat Conover, Grover Beach, Calif.
Many thanks to his wonderful caretaker, Beth Rubeling, for her many years of service.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, at Headley Funeral Chapel, 813 State St., Augusta.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at Highland Cemetery, Iola.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Children’s Miracle Network or St. Jude’s Research Hospital.
