Deborah N. Ballard, 51, of rural Madison, who has family living in the Iola area, died Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at Newman Regional Health in Emporia.

She was born Jan. 17, 1959, in Emporia, the daughter of Elmer and Bonnie Waddell Ott. She lived most of her life in the Lamont community.

She graduated from Madison High School and attended two years at Emporia State University and graduated from the University of Kansas Medical Center with a degree in nursing.

She was a member of the Lamont Wesleyan Church and director of the church nursery.

On Nov. 7, 1981, she married Roy A. Ballard in Madison. 

He survives, as does a son, Shane, of the home; three daughters, Megan and her husband, Shawn Dickinson, Ottawa, Lacey Ballard, Madison, and Molly Ballard, El Dorado; her parents, Elmer and Bonnie Ott, Lamont; a brother, Tim Ott and his wife, Gena, Lamont; and a sister, Michele and her husband, Dan Johnston, Lamont.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lamont Wesleyan Church. The Revs. Steve McVey and Jess Allen will officiate. Burial will follow in Lena Valley Cemetery North in Lamont.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Lamont Wesleyan Church.
