Donald Eugene Hull, 84, of Topeka, father of former Iolan Tamara Hull-Starks of Topeka and grandfather of Alison William and Christian Starks, died Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at his home.
He was born May 1, 1925, in Valley Falls, to George W. and Emma (Walters) Hull.
He was a painting contractor for 40 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. During World War II he served for the gunnery crew on the USS Tennessee and served on the USS Union during the Korean Conflict. In 1948 he obtained his single engine pilots license.
On Nov. 28, 1950, he married Delores Martin in Topeka. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1650, American Legion Post No. 1, the Moose Lodge and Topeka Bowling Association where he was inducted into the hall of fame.
He is also survived by a son, Mark and his wife, Connie, Topeka; sisters, Ruth Carson, Topeka, and Florence and her husband, Jay Kooser, Perry, three additional grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
His wife, a son, Kent, and a brother, James, died earlier.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel in Topeka. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
