Gary Nordt

Gary L. Nordt of Humboldt, whose death on Wednesday, visitation and funeral services were published in Thursday’s Register, was born Feb. 21, 1936, on a farm east of Humboldt, to Henry Carl and Edna Charlotta (Groennert) Nordt. The family moved to Humboldt when he was 10, and he graduated from Humboldt High School in 1954.
On July 27, 1956, Gary married Wanda L. Scott at Trinity United Methodist Church in Iola. They made their home in Humboldt most of their married lives.
He worked construction in the area most of his life. He also worked at Humboldt High School until he retired. He had been doing glass and screen repair until his death.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt all of his life. He belonged to the men’s club at the church and helped with the church floats for Biblesta. His other memberships included Humboldt Lions Club and Humboldt Alumni Association. He enjoyed playing softball until he was 60. He enjoyed all sports and particularly enjoyed watching his children’s and grandchildren’s games. Gary also announced the HHS basketball games and enjoyed mentoring the youth. He was also blessed with a gentle singing voice and sang at many weddings, funerals and other occasions in the area.
He is survived by his wife; five children, Kelly Nordt, Humboldt, Bryan and his wife, Judy, Chanute, Christy Nordt, Havertown, Pa., Russell and his wife, Sarah, Parsons, and Annette Morris, Humboldt; a sister, Violet Fabik, North Platte, Neb.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
