Harley C. Hutton, 78, Gas, passed away Friday, March 3, 2017, at Allen County Regional Hospital, Iola.
Harley was born on Feb. 6, 1939 in Iola. He was the only child born to Mearl and Violet (Trester) Hutton. He grew up in the Gas area, attending school there. He was a lifelong resident of the Gas and Iola communities. On Aug. 26, 1959, he eloped with Bonnie Wilson and they were married in Colony. This union was blessed with four sons. Harley was an equipment operator for the City of Iola water department. He retired in 1995 after 30 years of service to the City of Iola. He enjoyed dirt track racing, building race cars, and going to the races, sometimes, up to four nights a week. Harley also enjoyed working on cars and tinkering on things in his garage. Later in life he enjoyed going on road trips.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of nearly 50 years on July 1, 2009; and one daughter-in-law, Pamela Hutton, on Feb. 26, 2011.
Harley is survived by his sons, Irvin and wife Brenda, Neosho Falls, Gregg and wife, Roxanne, Iola, Tony, Gas, and Chris and wife Tracy, Salina; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Iola. Burial will follow in the Gas City Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Allen County Hospital Foundation.
