James Harold “Jimmy” Nichols, 41, Bronson, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at Allen County Hospital.
He was born April 18, 1969. He graduated from Uniontown High School.
He married Sheila Brooks on Feb. 11, 1994, at Miami, Okla. He served with the U.S. Marines until an injury forced his discharge. He was currently employed as jail administrator with the Fort Scott Regional Corrections Center and also served as a deputy sheriff. He was recently chosen by the federal government to help revise policies on inmate management. 
He was a Master Certified Emergency Response Team trainer. He was formerly employed with the Fort Scott Community College truck driving school and also hauled cattle. He was a former little league baseball coach and served for four years as mayor of Bronson. He founded the Bourbon County Power Lift Team and was also founder of the Bourbon County Sheriff’s Toy Drive. He was a member of the American Jail Association and attended Mount Orum Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Sheila, of the home; one son, Paul Nichols, U.S. Army, Fort Campbell, Ky.; one daughter, Melissa Nichols and fiance Derek Thompson, Springfield, Mo.; and his mother, Kathy Nichols, Las Cruz, N.M. Also surviving are two sisters, Bobbi Nichols and husband Jesse Ortiz, Las Cruz, Opal Tidwell and husband Andy, Farmington, N.M., father-in-law, Wilbur Brooks, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and mother-in-law, Irene Brooks.
Pastor Marty DeWitt will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, in the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Bronson Cemetery. Private family visitation will be Monday evening.
