Kirby Lynn Byers, 55, Iola, died on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at the Manor Care Nursing Home in Wichita.

He was born Feb. 6, 1958, in Iola, the son of Bert Thomas Byers and Marilyn Allene Hayes. He was raised from infancy by his maternal grandparents, William and Leota Baker, Iola.

He attended local schools, and graduated from Iola High School in 1975. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop No. 56 in Iola, and achieved the rank of Life Scout.

Those who knew him as a young boy, will remember him riding around town on his bicycle delivering The Grit newspaper. Those who knew him later in his life, will remember him riding around town in his motorized wheelchair. He always had a smile and a friendly wave for everyone he met.

He is survived by two daughters, LaDonna Michelle Byers Jones and Tiffany Dawn Byers; three grandchildren, Melyssa Jones, Tristan Jones, and Bently Byers; his mother, Marilyn Allene Byers; and three brothers, Michael Thomas Byers, Richard Eugene Byers, both of Iola, and Noel Ian Logan, Muskogee, Okla.; step-brothers, Vernon Hill, Fort Scott, Bob Hill, Lawrence “L.C.” Hill, Rick Hill, and Jack Hill, and step-sisters, Helen Hill Heiman, and Becky Hill Van Etten, all of Iola; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his best friend and life companion, Sandra Sue Harmon; his father, Bert Thomas Byers; step-mother, Pauline Hill Byers; younger brother, Scott Byers; and his grandparents, who lovingly raised him, William and Leota Baker.

Cremation has taken place, and the details of a graveside service for interment at the Iola Highland Cemetery will be announced later.
