Margret A. Marge Laverty, age 76 of Thayer, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, in Chanute. She was born on Oct. 27, 1941, in Iola, the daughter of Ottie and Evelyn (Symms) Peres.
Marge graduated from Iola High School in 1959 and attended Beauty College in Wichita. Marge married Howard Laverty and they had one daughter together. They later divorced. She then married Bill Taylor and he preceded her in death.
Marge loved shooting pool and she was a member of a bush league. She was an excellent cook and owned and operated 169 Café in Thayer for over 25 years. Most of all, Marge loved going to her grandsons events and spoiling him. Marge was a past member of the National Hairdressers Association. She was baptized in the Methodist Church in Iola.
Marge is survived by daughter Tonja Killough of Thayer; sisters Mable Roush of Chanute, Judith Johnson of Iola; grandchildren Katherine Nolan and Michael Killough; great-grandchildren Kallel Nolan, Payden Nolan, Malakia Nolan.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Kenton Laverty and brothers, Donald and James Peres.
Cremation has been requested. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Thayer Christian Church. Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.
