The family of Chester Lee Morey of rural Iola, whose death Thursday was reported in Friday’s Register, will receive friends at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapels in Iola before leaving for Gas City Cemetery for graveside services at 11 o’clock. Chaplain Lloyd Houk will officiate.
He was born Nov. 25, 1928, in Ottumwa, the son of Jake and Etta (Kiser) Morey. He grew up in Burlington and graduated from Burlington High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War.
On June 6, 1953, he married Nadine A. Hines in Burlington. They made their home in Burlington, Topeka and Yates Center before moving to Iola in 1975. He worked for Highway Food Basket in Yates Center, Singer’s IGA in Iola and retired from Gates Corporation in Iola in 1994.
He enjoyed fishing and dancing with his wife.
He us survived by his wife of the home; two sons, David and his wife, Barbara, Audubon, Minn., and Jerry and his wife, Pamela, Aiken, S.C.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers; and six sisters.
