Sally Ann Mahan

Former Iola resident Sally Ann Mahan, 79, died Thursday, July 29, 2010, at her home in Needles, Calif.
She was born Jan. 21, 1931, in Pittsburg, to Francis A. and Madge  L. (Ryder) Dillman of Iola. She graduated from Iola High School and Iola Junior College and began her teaching career in Kansas. She moved to California in 1966 and later earned a degree in education from California State University Fresno. For several years she taught at a private Christian elementary school in central California before relocating to Anaheim and teaching developmentally disabled adults. While in Anaheim she also worked for the state Franchise Tax Board until her retirement in 1996, when she moved to Needles in the Mojave Desert. 
She received recognition as a talented writer and scenic photographer.
She is survived by a son, David, Fort Mohave, Ariz.; a daughter, Stephanie Dumfries, Sarnia, Ontario, Canada; a brother, James Dillman, Urbandale, Iowa; and a sister, Linda Dillman, Castle Rock, Colo.
