Shanae Smart, 24, Frankfort, died Saturday, January 23, 2016, at her home.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Padden Funeral Chapel in Frankfort. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Frankfort. Burial will be private
Shanae was born Feb. 13, 1991, to Larry D. Smart, Frankfort, and Monica G. Northcutt, Iola, in Manhattan. She attended Kansas State University and Allen County Community College majoring in pre-school education.
Shanae was employed by USD 320 in Wamego as a paraprofessional at West Elementary, working with special needs students in grades 3-5. She was also a KSHSAA registered official for volleyball and basketball, officiating matches and games in northeast Kansas, partnering with her father on most occasions.
In the summers she worked at Lynn’s Daycare, Frankfort. She loved life, she always had a smile on her face no matter what challenges she faced in her own life. Anyone that knew her said she had a contagious smile and didn’t know a stranger.
Shanae loved all sports, no matter who the team was, but her true love was basketball. Shanae was selected honorable mention all-state in 2009, and was the first girl from Frankfort to make it to state in pole vault. She loved spending time with family and friends, working with younger children and sharing her knowledge of FFA and 4-H.
She was a member of Frankfort United Methodist Church, KSHAA and the Epilepsy Foundation.
Survivors include her parents; sister, Mykaela Gayle Smart, Frankfort; her best friend and service dog, Trego; her grandparents, Janice and Larry E. Smart, Osage City, and grandmother Twyla Norman, Gas; three aunts and uncles; nine cousins and one great-cousin.
Preceding her in death were Harley Norman and Donald Northcutt, grandfathers.
Shanae will be missed greatly by all of her family and friends. We will miss her bubbly personality, contagious smile, her love of children and most of her love of the game. Shanae has earned her very deserving wings and she is truly God’s child. Love you much, your family and friends.
Memorials will be used to provide educational materials for the Special Services students Shanae so deeply loved at West Elementary in Wamego and to establish a scholarship in her name for the Frankfort FFA Chapter.
Memorials can be sent to Padden Funeral Chapel, Frankfort.
