Donald Trump has completed the first year of his second term. Let’s look back at some of the things that he and his administration have done in the last year.
1. The administration intimidated universities, law firms and their clients, and tech companies into complying with administrative demands for changes to policies including DEI initiatives by threatening to block federal funding, to cancel federal contracts, to pull federal licenses, and to revoke tax-exempt status.
2. The administration attempted to punish Democratic-controlled states by cancelling projects and grants like $7.6 billion for clean energy projects in Colorado. It has also threatened to send ICE agents to blue states to pressure them to hand over voting information and to shut down sanctuary cities.
3. The administration attempted to stifle late night television hosts from criticizing the President and his policies by putting pressure on media companies to fire them.
4. The administration used the Justice Department to attack people who have spoken out against the President including James Comey, Jerome Powell, John Bolton, and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
5. The President repeatedly threatens both naturalized and American-born citizens with deportation if they disagree with his administration.
6. The Secretary of the Department of Defense attacked Senator Mark Kelly and other former military members of Congress for a video he didn’t like.
7. The President demanded $230 million as compensation for federal investigations into his behavior.
8. The administration made more than 35 strikes against alleged drug smuggling boats in international waters killing more than 100 people and seized multiple oil tankers with connections to Venezuela.
9. The administration, fearing the loss of the House of Representatives in 2026, coerced Republican-controlled states, to redistrict in order to create more safe Republican seats and to effectively provide little or no representation for Democratic citizens in those states.
10. The President pardoned all persons involved in the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.
11. The administration forced out the head of the Eisenhower library because he refused to give up an historic sword that the President wanted to gift to King Charles.
12. The President promised to protect protesters in Iran while calling protesters in our country “professional agitators and insurrectionists.”
13. Even though the administration supports the Second Amendment, the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI stated that protesters in Minneapolis should not be carrying guns to peaceful protests.
This is an interesting statement since the President seemed okay with firearms, tasers, and knives being carried by persons involved in the January 6, 2021, “peaceful protest”.
14. Feeling slighted by not being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, the President has alienated foreign countries, including long-time allies, by threatening to take over Greenland.
