Cameron Parker started where he left off as NJCAA Indoor triple jump champion last March. The Allen County Community College sophomore opened defense of his title with a win at last weekend’s University of Nebraska Holiday Inn Invitational.
In Lincoln, Parker won the seeded triple jump with a leap of 51 feet, 1/4 inch. That’s shy of his own ACCC record of 51’ 10 1/2 inches set last March at the NJCAA championships.
According to ACCC assistant track coach Christa Baird, Parker beat the NCAA and Big 12 Conference triple jumpers in the competition. Parker’s mark qualified him for the NJCAA national meet this March.
Sophomore Isiah Young claimed the gold in the 60-meter dash in 6.80 seconds. Young’s winning time qualified him for the national meet also. Kryon Stewart placed sixth in the 60-meter dash in 6.95 seconds.
Allen County had two sophomore women qualify for the national meet in the Red Devils first indoor meet of the season. Both will make return trips to the nationals.
Postenea Louisjeune posted qualifying marks in both the high jump and long jump. Her high jump height of 5’6 1/2” took third at Nebraska and set an ACCC indoor record.
Louisjeune placed fifth at the meet in the long jump. She had a leap of 17’9 1/2”. She went to the 2009 nationals in both events.
