ACCC softball team has rough go in tournament

OVERLAND PARK — Allen County Community College’s softball team pulled out a win after three losses at Johnson County Community College’s tournament over the weekend.
The Red Devils lost Friday 9-1 to North Central Missouri and 6-1 to NJCAA Division 1’s 20th-ranked Butler County. They went into extra innings tied 1-1 with Colby Saturday only to lose 5-1 in eight innings.
A solo home run by Jenna Sigg with two out in the bottom of the fifth inning put ACCC up 3-2 on Barton County Saturday.
Sophomore Brianne Campbell retired Barton County in order in the sixth then she and the Red Devils worked out of trouble in the seventh to win. Campbell allowed four hits, walked one and struck out three.
Allen County scored a run in the first. Shawna Blakesley singled and went to second on a passed ball. With two gone, Autumn Lamle drove in the run with a base hit.
In the third, Barton County went ahead 2-1. Allen County produced a run in the fourth. Lamle walked and ended up on third when Callie Umholtz came up with an RBI single.
Then came the home run.
Blakesley had two singles in the game. The other hit was a single by Kylie Taylor.
Earlier Saturday, the Red Devils tied the game with Colby in the sixth inning at 1-1. Sigg singled, stole second and with two gone, she scored on an RBI double by Blakesley.
Allen County’s defense broke down in the eighth as Colby scored four runs. ACCC went in order in the bottom of the inning.
Lenzie Boring took the pitching loss. She allowed eight hits, walked four and struck out nine.
Sigg had two singles in the game. Boring and Taylor had a single apiece.
Allen County lost 9-1 to North Central Missouri Friday in the tournament. Boring was the losing pitcher, giving up 15 hits and one walk and striking out four.
Allen County’s lone run came on a solo home run in the second inning by Brandie Hutcheson. She also had a single in the game.
Hitting a single in the game were Amy Carr, Lamle and Blakesley.
North Central Missouri hit four home runs in the game. Carrington had a two run and a three-run blasts. Summer hit a two-run homer and a solo home run.
Butler County had four doubles in its 6-1 win over Allen County. Campbell took the loss, allowing 13 hits, walking one and striking out seven.
Blakesley had two singles for ACCC. Lamle and Kristina Popejoy each had a base hit.
Allen County is 20-14 overall. The Red Devils host Neosho County Community College of Chanute Tuesday. Allen County in 9-1 in Jayhawk Eastern Division play.
