Before the high school softball season even starts, three members of Humboldt High’s team have signed with Allen Community College for next year. Jaci Ross, Mallory Roush and Delaney Umholtz signed their letters of intent on Saturday.
“They all bring something different,” ACC coach Jaimie Jensen said. “Jaci Ross is a pitcher. Mallory Roush and Delaney Umholtz play outfield. They can all swing it.”
Roush and Umholtz are coming off of seasons in which they were named to the Tri-Valley All-League team.
Roush, as the starting center fielder, hit 2 home runs and had 28 RBIs last season. She hit for an .456 batting average. Umholtz started in right field last season and posted a .403 batting average, with four home runs and 17 RBIs.
“The outfielders have some speed and good arms,” Jensen said.
Ross is Humboldt’s second pitcher, behind Courtney Richey.
“Jaci, we’ve worked with her a little on her pitching,” Jensen said. “I think she can bring some movement with her pitches. They’re local kids that come from great families, too.”
Allen’s softball team is off to a better start (7-8) than last season and has more wins than last season (6-38). Humboldt starts the softball season on March 31 at home against Neodesha.
