The Terry Lower Invitational — one of the signature middle school track meets in the state — drew more than 750 athletes from 17 schools to Iola’s Riverside Park Tuesday.

There, Iola Middle School’s eighth- and seventh-grade boys teams shined brightest on a warm and blustery day.

The eighth-grade Mustangs eked out the team trophy, edging rival Chanute, 100.50 to 98.5. Iola’s seventh-graders had a bit more breathing room with 109.6 points, 22 points ahead of runner-up Burlington.

In girls action, Girard won both  the seventh and eighth grade competitions.

Humboldt’s seventh-graders took second, just ahead of Iola in third.
