Raise the banner high. Wear the Blue and Gold, Orange and Black, Blue and White, Blue and Red proud to games, matches, races.
Fall is officially here. Even today’s weather has that great fall feel to it.
So tonight, tug on your respective school colors and enjoy an area high school football game. All but Iola High are on the road but follow them anyway.
District play begins next week for Humboldt High’s Cubs in Class 2-1A and for the four area eight-man teams — Marmaton Valley, Crest, Southern Coffey County and Yates Center.  Humboldt hosts Oswego for homecoming while Crest has Chetopa coming in for the Lancer homecoming.
Yates Center plays Marmaton Valley for the MVHS homecoming next week. Southern Coffey County will be home with Marais Des Cygnes Valley coming for a district game.

IOLA HIGH’s Mustangs are out to claim a homecoming victory tonight at Riverside Stadium. The confident Columbus High Titans come marching to Iola with a big SEK win over Chanute last week.
The Mustangs have starting quarterback Charles Apt, a senior, back after a week out with a concussion. Also returning from a concussion is senior left guard Drew Shepherd.
Iola is looking for the “best 11 guys” on offense and the “best 11 guys” on defense to step up and put a whole game together. It hasn’t happened yet in the first three games and that’s why the Mustangs are 0-3.
Taking advantage of opportunities early in the game — when the balance of winning or losing is on the line — hasn’t happened for Iola this season.
Both Mustang head coach Rick Horton and Titan head coach Dan Grundy look for their teams to control the line of scrimmage. Control that long stretch of narrow turf each time the ball is snapped and more than likely you are going to win the game.
Wear the Blue and Gold and pack the stands tonight. Help push the Mustangs to a victory.

HOW ABOUT the cross country teams from Iola, Humboldt, Marmaton Valley, Crest and Yates Center? The runners wore their school colors well at Riverside Park Tuesday in the annual Iola High Doc Stiles Invitational.
Roman Yocham of Iola made it two in a row as the individual champion of the varsity race. Italy Loving had her best race of the season winning the girls’ varsity race to prove she was on her way to a possible fourth run at the state meet in October.
